METALTERJ #222 Industrial Liquid Detergent Removes petroleum and vegetable oils, cutting oils, paper and aluminum labels, most inks, rust, paint, carbon deposits, engine “varnish” , buffing and drawing compounds, lubricants, waxes, resins, latexes, some asphalts, many other industrial substances. Its wide range of uses is indicated by its extensive use for cleaning the interiors of common-carrier tank trucks which carry virtually every known chemical substance. In this application, Metalterj #222, alone or used with a suitable solvent, removes an estimated 99% of the substances carried. Use on all ferrous metals, glass, most plastics, and other materials not affected by high alkalinity. Do not use on aluminum or other soft metals and alloys. Use for:
Active Components and Performance Properties Contains sodium hydroxide, organic chelating and sequestering agents, organic rust inhibitor, and a synergistic blend of anionic and nonionic wetting agents, penetrants and emulsifiers. Components are in such proportions that use-dilutions provide: The liquid form of Metalterj #222 makes it easier, safer and more efficient to use than powder compounds -- a liquid can be fed thru a closed system directly from the shipping drum to the cleaning operation; it eliminates the hazardous mixing of alkaline powders with water; it can be automatically metered to deliver a consistently accurate dilution; it can be conveniently measured by volume. Recommended Use Dilutions Dilute in water to suit the job. Quantity required depends on the quantity and type of dirt, porosity of the surface, temperature, soak time allowed, and the degree of agitation applied by the cleaning method. Recommendations per gallon of solution:
In recirculation systems, solution strength gradually decreases during use; add more Metalterj #222 as needed to raise to desired strength. Test Kit #28 is available for checking solution strength by simplified titration. Some chemical resistant substances, such as plastics intermediates and some resins, require a solvent in addition to Metalterj #222. Sometimes a pre-wash soak or spray with a suitable solvent is the best method; sometimes adding a suitable solvent to the Metalterj #222 solution is the best method. Some substances require uncommon, specific solvents or methods; some substances can not be removed chemically; send samples to Cardinal for tests and recommendations. Use Temperatures and Time Required Common industrial dirt such as cutting and lubricating oils, rust inhibitors and buffing compounds can be removed “cold” at ambient temperatures. Baked-on carbon, many chemicals carried in tank trucks, heavy rust, and good paints can be removed only at temperatures of 180F or higher. One to 15 minutes is normally required for parts. The time required for equipment varies greatly. Some dirt is removed instantly on contact, several hours may be required for severe conditions. Where speed is not important, fuel can frequently be saved by extending the time. Cleaning Cost Metalterj #222 usually provides the most efficient and lowest-cost cleaning where use-solutions must contain a relatively high concentration of caustic soda and where use-solutions with a relatively high ratio of caustic: surfactant are most cost-effective. In applications where solution is recirculated and more detergent is added as needed, the starting dilution has no effect on cleaning cost -- if more than necessary is used at start, the solution will last longer before addition is needed. In such applications, solution life can be prolonged by using filters in return lines, by removing sludge from bottom of tank and by skimming floating scum from top. Properties - DOT Class - Precautions
Alkaline liquid. Contains caustic soda. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, flush with water for at least 15 minutes, for eyes get medical attention. Use rubber boots or water-proof soles if walked on, leather not adequate. Use rubber or neoprene gloves for hand immersion; use safety goggles where needed. Rinse cleaned surfaces with potable water before contact with food or drink. For industrial use only. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. |
