METALTERJ #256
Industrial Detergent With Booster Solvent

Usually the most cost-efficient detergent for removing detergent-resistant substances from ferrous metals. The detergent-solvent combination removes many carbonaceous and resinous substances that are difficult or impossible to remove with detergents only.

Principal use is cleaning ferrous metals but is also recommended for cleaning other hard metals such as copper and nickel, and for other materials safe in strong alkalies such as glass, concrete and most plastics. Do NOT use on aluminum or other soft metals and alloys.

Prevents in-wash rust, retards after-wash rust, but, especially if rinsed, the use of a suitable rust inhibitor is recommended for assured rust prevention. Use at any temperature; but many detergent-resistant substances can be removed only at temperatures over 120F. Has low, unstable foam at any temperature. Typical uses....

Performance Properties & Active Components

Dissolves instantly in hot or cold water; low viscosity assures consistently accurate solutions when fed thru a metering pump or suction device such as a venturi injector.

At recommended use dilutions, it provides:

  • Quick wetting, penetration, dispersion, suspension, and solution of solids and oily substances,
  • Very low foam at any temperature,
  • Prevention of in-wash rust, retardation of after-wash rust,
  • Quick, virtually spot-free rinsing, if desired, and scale-free equipment -- both due to low surface tension and deactivation of calcium and other hardwater ions.

Contains buffered alkali, organic chelant and sequestrant, organic rust preventive, organic solvent, anionic wetting agent, penetrant and dispersant. Does NOT contain nitrites, chromates or phosphates.

Recommended Use Dilutions
shown as % of solution volume & equivalent fluid ounces per gallon solution

Dilute in water to suit the job. The dilution required depends on the quantity and type of dirt, porosity of the surface, temperature, soak time allowed, and degree of agitation applied by the cleaning method used.

To remove oils, lubricants, rust inhibitors, vegetable oils, waxes and similar substances. At least: 1% Sol = 1.3 oz/gal.

To remove detergent-resistant substances such as some resins, marking inks, drawing compounds, asphalts, special lubricants. usually no more than 10% Sol = 12.8 oz/gal.

For any unusually severe conditions. As needed up to Full-strength product.

Use Temperatures & Time Required

Hot solutions, 140F to boil point, provide the most effective cleaning. “Cold” solutions, at ambient temperatures, remove many common industrial substances such as oils, rust inhibitors and buffing compounds; when used cold, higher concentrations & longer time may be needed.

For some substances, especially if they are solids or very thick at ambient temperatures, hot solutions are essential.

One to 15 minutes is normally required for parts. The time required for equipment varies greatly; some substances are removed instantly on contact, others need hours.
