CARDENE
Sewage & Refuse Deodorant - Grease Remover

Cardene combines powerful deodorizing properties with excellent grease-dissolving and grease-emulsifying action. It has proved effective in scores of applications where odor control and grease removal are required. It is easy and economical to use because it mixes instantly with water. As shipped it is a green liquid of low viscosity; when mixed with water it forms a white emulsion.

Cardene is recommended for the elimination of odors due to the decomposition of organic wastes under conditions similar to those shown below. Cardene does not simply mask odor but actually prevents the formation of the gas (hydrogen sulfide) which is the normal cause of obnoxious odors.

Regular use will prevent the build-up of grease and slime in tanks, traps, pipes and re-circulating systems. If a considerable build-up already exists, it can be removed by shock-treatment with a high concentration of Cardene left in contact with the soil for sufficient time. If available, any type of agitation or re-circulation will hasten the action.

Because of its excellent solvent properties, Cardene is also effective as a solvent-degreaser for the removal of oily soils, and as an additive to fuel oils to prevent sludge formation and promote even burning. An additional benefit in some uses is that Cardene controls maggots, flies, roaches, mosquitoes, and other insects.

Several common applications and suggested dilutions are……….

Sewers

To eliminate odors; Use 1 to 2 quarts Cardene per 50 feet of 4" sewer line, proportionately more for larger lines.

Grease Traps

Clean by adding Cardene at 1 to 2 quarts per 250-gallon capacity. Sufficient water should be added if necessary to raise solution above grease level.

Garbage Cans & Trash Containers

Clean with Cardene at 2 to 4 ounces per gallon of water. Spray the cans, garbage, trash, and adjacent areas daily with Cardene at 1 to 2 ounces per gallon of water.

Septic Tanks & Leach Beds

One ounce Cardene (undiluted) per 2,000 gallons of input water will keep septic tanks and leach beds odorless, free-flowing and grease-free under normal usage conditions. For large-capacity tanks, add Cardene straight in this proportion.

For smaller-capacity tanks, this quantity is so small that it is advisable to make a stock solution of Cardene in water to permit accurate usage. For small septic tanks, make a stock solution containing 6 ounces Cardene per gallon of water. Add this solution daily, thru any drain or toilet, using one ounce of solution per 100 gallons of input water. If input is not known, it can be estimated on the basis of normal water usage of 80 gallons per day per person. Example: Tank serves 6 people; the estimated input is 6 x 80g = 480g or about 500 gallons per day. Add 5 ounces solution per day.

For systems clogged with grease, initial shock treatment at higher concentration is required. Add Cardene directly to each grease trap and accessible septic tank, using one quart Cardene per 250-gallon tank capacity. Let stand without using the system as long as possible up to 48 hours. Bacterial action will return to normal when use is resumed.

Sewage Plants

Initial treatment: For 48 hours feed Cardene at 10 to 20 gallons per million gallons of sewage. Thereafter, feed Cardene continuously at 1 to 4 gallons per million gallons of sewage. Normally a drum is set up with an adjustable pet-cock installed to regulate the flow. Cardene is allowed to drip by gravity.

Re-circulation Systems

In closed systems, where wash water or cutting coolant is re-circulated, use Cardene at about 1 gallon per 2000 gallons. This dilution eliminates odors and keeps brushes clean. Examples of applications are: Automatic Car Washes, Industrial Cutting or Grinding Machines, Industrial Parts Washers, etc.

Outdoor Toilets

Dilute Cardene 3 to 6 ounces per gallon of water. Spray solution liberally on all refuse and adjacent surfaces. Repeat daily or as needed.

Chemical Toilets

Keep filled with a solution containing 1 ounce Cardene per gallon of water.

General Cleaning & Degreasing

Cardene dissolves greases, oils, tars, carbonaceous deposits, and asphalts. It does not attack paints. Easy to use because dissolved substances can be rinsed off with water. For heavy soil, apply Cardene full strength and let stand until soil is dissolved, usually 5 to 15 minutes. Any type of agitation, such as scrubbing, re-circulating, ultra-sonic waves, etc., will increase dissolving speed. When soil is dissolved, rinse clean with water at maximum pressure. For light soil, Cardene may be diluted with water, kerosene, stoddard solvent, diesel fuel, etc.

Land Fills

Where refuse is covered daily with earth, dilute Cardene 1 to 2 ounces per gallon of water and spray the solution on the fill every 5 to 10 days at 75 gallons per 10,000 square feet.

Garbage & Refuse Dumps

Where refuse is not covered daily with earth, dilute Cardene 1 to 2 ounces per gallon of water and spray solution every 5 to 10 days at 500 gallons per 10,000 square feet. If less water must be used, dilute Cardene 6 to 12 ounces per gallon of water and spray solution every 5 to 10 days at 100 gallons per 10,000 square feet.

Rendering Plants

For general cleaning and deodorizing, Cardene is normally effective at 1 to 4 ounces per gallon of water. Due to variations in methods of processing, the control of odors arising from operations must be trial.

Poultry & Meat Processing Plants

Use only with permission from federal inspector. Use outside for cleaning and deodorizing loading docks, building exteriors and trucks. Use inside only in the offal room. Avoid contamination of food. Normally, Cardene is used at 1 to 4 ounces per gallon of water. Vary concentration to suit conditions.

Drainage, Ditches, & Streams

Feed Cardene continuously at 1 to 4 gallons per million gallons of water. Normally a drum is set up with an adjustable pet-cock installed to regulate the flow; Cardene is allowed to drip by gravity. For initial treatment if ditch is in very bad condition, dilute Cardene 1 to 2 ounces per gallon of water and spray on banks.

Fuel Oil Additive

Cardene promotes even burning of fuel oil by dispersing the water formed by condensation inside the tank. It prevents sludge formation in stored fuel and dissolves existing sludge if used regularly. The quantity required varies with the grade of fuel oil: for #2 oil use one quart Cardene per 5,000 gallons; for #3 oil use one quart Cardene per 2,500 gallons; other grades proportionately.
