Metalterj #286
Industrial Liquid Detergent With Booster Solvent

Use on all metals. Will not corrode or discolor any metal including aluminum and other soft metals, and alloys. Use on glass, plastics, and other materials known to be safe in moderately alkaline solutions.

Removes cutting oils, petroleum oils, vegetable oils, paper labels. Removes most other lubricants, drawing compounds, buffing compounds, rust inhibitors, waxes, mold-release agents, and marking inks. Removes some paints, resins, latexes and asphalts. Removes many other industrial substances.

Active Components & Performance Properties

Contains buffered alkalies, organic chelants and sequestrants, corrosion preventive, rust preventive, organic solvent, and a synergistic blend of anionic and nonionic wetting agents, penetrants and dispersants. Low viscosity assures instant solubility in hot or cold water and consistently accurate solutions when fed through a metering pump or suction device such as a venturi injector.

At recommended use dilutions, it provides:
... Quick wetting, penetration, dispersion, and suspension of oily substances, but with limited emulsification to increase the effectiveness of skimming,
... Dissolution of many organic substances which are detergent-resistant,
... Low foam at all temperatures, very low foam over 100F,
... Protection of all metals from rust and corrosion,
... Quick, virtually spot-free rinsing and scale-free equipment -- due to low surface tension and deactivation of calcium and other hard-water ions.

Recommended Use Dilutions

Dilute in water to suit the job. The dilution required depends on the quantity and type of dirt, porosity of the surface, temperature, soak time allowed, and degree of agitation applied by the cleaning method used. A test kit is available for checking solution strength by simplified titration. Recommended per gallon of solution....

For spray washing to remove dirt resulting from machining and
other manufacturing processes, normally.....................................
2 oz/gal = 1.63 water.

For cleaning tank interiors, vats, heat exchangers and similar equipment, normally, at least.......................................................4 oz/gal = 1:31 water.

For use in vibratory, spindle, or tumbling machines:
Rust protection not needed: at least.........................................
1/2 oz/gal = 1:255 water.
Rust protection needed for parts or media: at least..................1 oz/gal = 1:127 water.

For any unusually severe conditions... up to................................40 oz/gal = 1:2 water.

As replacement for flammable/toxic solvents used for cold
bucket-cleaning of metals... up to................................................
full strength.

Use Temperatures & Time Required

Hot solutions, 140F to boil point, provide the most effective cleaning. “Cold” solutions, at ambient temperatures, remove many common industrial substances such as oils, rust inhibitors, and buffing compounds; when used “cold”, higher concentrations and longer time may be needed.

For some resins, asphalts, and similar substances, especially if they are solids or very thick substances at ambient temperatures, hot solutions are essential.

One to 15 minutes is normally required for parts. The time required for equipment varies greatly; some substances are removed instantly on contact, other need hours.

Rust Prevention

Prevents in-wash rust. Prevents after-wash rust for up to 30 days under common inside storage conditions. But since its cleaning efficiency may approach 100%, additional protection against rust is recommended for longer storage time, for adverse storage conditions, and for some cast iron.

Rust resistance can be improved by washing with a higher concentration of detergent, or by rinsing with a 1% or 2% solution of detergent instead of water only. If maximum cleaning quality is not essential, rust resistance can be improved by reducing concentration, time or temperature, or by omitting rinse, so that less effective cleaning leaves a residual oil film on the surface. If long-term protection against rust is needed, use a suitable rust inhibitor after cleaning.

Alkaline liquid. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, especially when undiluted. In case of contact, flush with water, eyes for at least 15 minutes; for eyes, get medical attention. Wear rubber or neoprene gloves if hands must be immersed. All surfaces must be rinsed with potable water before contact with food or drink. For industrial use only. Keep out reach of children.
